Thornell "Buck" Cooper

July 24, 1951 — May 17, 2022

"The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want" Psalm 23:1 Thornell "Buck" Cooper, age 70, of York, Alabama born to the union of the late Johnny L. and Willie Elise Bostic Cooper, transitioned and entered into eternal rest May 17, 2020 at 11:16 a.m. at his residence surrounded by loving family. Service of Memory and Life Celebration is slated for Saturday, May 21, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 254 McConnell Street, also York, Alabama. Pastor Rev. Jonathan Byrd will deliver the eulogy offering words of comfort and consolation with First Lady, Sister Shirley Byrd to serve as Mistress of Order. Visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Friday evening (May 20th) from 4-6:00 p.m. in the Weatherly Chapel. Thornell was affectionately known as "Sonny" to his mother, cousins and friends, "Buck" to his siblings and "Uncle Buck" to his nephews and nieces. He graduated from York West End High School in York, Alabama. Along his journey he accepted the Lord as his personal Saviour at an early age. He loved church and was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of York, Alabama. He enjoyed attending church and did so faithfully until health issues preventing him from doing so. He was an honorary Deacon and a member of the Usher Board. Thornell was always happy and dedicated to volunteering and helping others whenever he was asked or if he saw a need. Thornell enjoyed listening to gospel music, doing yard work, being outdoors, fishing (when his mother was living) and being playful with loved ones and friends. Additionally, he regularly looked forward to attending Braxton Senior Care Center in Demopolis, Alabama. Thornell leaves to cherish his memories his two beloved sisters, Diane Cooper and Gwendolyn (Gerald)Singleton; two brothers, John Cooper (Rosa Cooper) and Dwight (Shirley) Cooper; five nephews, Geoffery Ward, Thomas Law, Granville (Erica) Carr, Dartridge (Altonique) Cooper and Dwight Cooper, Jr; two nieces, Meranda (Scott) Martin and Summer (Carlos) Carter, great-nieces and nephews who loved him dearly, as well as his supportive, loving and caring church family.
