DORINE CHANEY WATKINS, age 90 of York, Alabama was born July 20, 1931 to the union of the late Ellis and Cora Chaney in Ward, Choctaw County, Alabama. She peacefully transitioned and entered into eternal rest May 9, 2022 at her residence surrounded by loving family. Service of Remembrance and Life Celebration Services are slated for Sunday, May 15, 2022 at 12:30 p.m. at Eastern Star Missionary Baptist Church, located 112 Curl Road with Sister Watkins to lie in repose one hour prior to funeral time. Pastor Rev. Robert E. Pearce, Jr., will deliver the eulogy and offer words of comfort and consolation. Interment is to follow in Eastern Star Memorial Gardens, Millville Road 19, also York, Alabama. After the Committal Service, repast is at the Livingston Civic Center, located 101 Country Club Road, Livingston, Alabama 35470. Visitation for family and friends is scheduled Saturday evening (May 14th) from 3:00 until 6:00 p.m. in the Weatherly Chapel. She confessed her faith and hope in Christ at an early age and was baptized at Ward Chapel C.ME Church in Ward, Alabama. She a true Southern girl and was educated through the Choctaw County Training School in the Blackbelt of Alabama. As a young adult she moved to Sumter County and settled in York, Alabama where she worked in various occupational fields for over five decades including - Sumter Dry Cleaners, Sumter Plywood Plant, the Coca-Cola Bottling Company and Sumter Nursing Home & Rehabilitation Center. Her greatest pleasure came from being with the love of her life, the late Riley Watkins to whom she was married for well over 50 years. Their golden years were their BEST years. Mrs. Watkins was the beloved mother of twelve children, twenty-seven grandchildren, thirty-two great grandchildren and twelve great great grandchildren. Mrs. Dorine loved the Lord and had a heart filled with compassion. Moreover, she was an active and committed member of Eastern Star Baptist Church and served faithfully in the Missionary and Matrons Department, Kitchen and Choir Department, and served in numerous other capacities. She loved God and found great joy serving in the church. Madea, as she is affectionately known, is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Riley Watkins, one daughter, Shelia Watkins and one son, Tonnie Bernard Watkins, one daughter, her parents; her siblings Florine Chaney Thompkins, Louise Chaney Thompkins, Elouise Chaney Powe, Katie Mae Chaney, Robert and James Chaney. Left to cherish her memories are her children Gloria (Sonny) Larkin, Doris Wallace, Mitchell (Mary) Austin, Linda Gail Watkins, Jerome Watkins, all of York, AL; Debra (Willie) Newman of Peoria, IL; Robert (Ruthie) Watkins of Charlotte, NC; Wille Pearl (Hubert) Watkins Rice of Livingston, AL; Riley Donail (Renae) Watkins of Lawrenceville, GA; and Dr. Pamela Watkins Whitehead of Huntsville, AL; one sister, Gloria Dubose; three sisters-in-law, Mattie Mae Crowell of Lisman, AL, Jessie Baker and Catherine Dobson of Detroit, MI.
