Ulanda Elease Chaney, age 56, affectionately known as “Lynn” was born on July 5, 1965. She confessed her love of Christ at an early age and joined Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, Ward, Al. Being a devoted Christian, Lynn has always remained affiliated with a church and was currently a member of Walking on Water Church under the leadership of Carney Smith in Birmingham, Al. Lynn was educated at Kinterbish Jr. High School and Sumter County High School in Sumter County, Al. After finishing high school, she attended the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa and transferred to Alabama State University where she received a degree in Finance. She was a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserve who served her country proudly during Operation Desert Storm as an operating room specialist. She was a vibrant, energetic, outgoing, and giving person who did not allow her health issues to define her life. Lynn loved to travel and often coordinated trips and other social events for her family and the Sumter County High School class of 1983. She devotedly served others as she often transported individuals to health appointments or supported family and friends as they faced life challenges. She was as a surrogate parent to many of her nieces and nephews attending class events, sports events, graduations, and even served as room auntie in her nieces classrooms. She faced many health challenges for 27 years of her life; but through it all, God was with her. She kept her faith in Christ, fought a good fight, and finished the race. On Thursday, September 2, 2021, at 1:46 p.m., Lynn received her wings and transitioned from her earthly home to her new heavenly address where God has laid up for her a crown of righteousness. She leaves to cherish her life and memories four sisters, Johnnie Chaney, Barbara (Bennie) Thomas, Marguerite Young, and Sheila Thomas; seven brothers, Charles (Angela) Chaney, Michael (Zaneta) Chaney, Roosevelt (Karla) Chaney, Jessie (Breanda) Thomas, Fredrick (Shauntia) Chaney, Michael (Angel) Thomas and Willie Chaney; a special niece who was like a sister Delois (Kenneth) Spencer; a host of nieces, nephews, great, and great-great nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends. Christopher Spencer officiating; Rev. Dock Lake is church pastor. The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home on Saturday, September 11, 2021.
