SHIRON STURDIVANT, age 61, of York, Alabama, born the third child of fourteen (14) children to the late Johnnie Lee and Catherine McCoy Sturdivant, transitioned and entered into eternal rest at her residence Sunday, January 28, 2018. Service of Remembrance and Celebration is Monday, February 5, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. from Mt. Herman Baptist Church, Millville Road 19, York. Rev. James Granger, pastor will deliver the eulogy and offer words of comfort and consolation; with interment following in the adjacent Sturdivant Family plot in Mt. Herman Cemetery. After the committal service, repast is in the Fellowship Hall of Mt. Herman. Sister "Sherry" will lie in repose one hour prior to funeral time. Visitation for family and friends is scheduled Sunday afternoon (Feb. 4th) from 2-6:00 p.m. in the Weatherly Chapel. On Monday afternoon at 12:40, the processional leaves the Sturdivant residence, located 45 McCoy Drive. Shiron confessed Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of Mt. Herman until God Called her home. She loved the church and served as a dedicated, devoted Kitchen Manager and Church Clerk for over 40 years. She also cherished education and received numerous Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees from Alabama State, Howard University, Boston University and the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa and the University of West Alabama. Her vision was to open other's eyes through the endless possibilities of an education and she further pursued this passion by dedicating over forty-one (41) years of her life to educating, inspiring and loving children throughout Sumter County, Alabama and the Kemper County, Mississippi school districts. She truly loved spending time with her family and leaves to cherish her memory: Thirteen (13) sisters and brothers: James L. (Della) Sturdivant, Carol Sturdivant, Gary and Tony Sturdivant, all of York, AL., Kathy Jean Sturdivant, Pearland, TX; Melinda (Tim) Bowers, and Cynthia Sturdivant of Decatur, AL; Leopoled Sturdivant, Anderson, Indiana; Jacqueline (Bobby) Sturdivant-Donald, Jackson MS; Vontean Rogers, Tonell (James) Donald, Peoria, IL; Dennis (Acacia) Sturdivant, Harvest, AL; and Denise Sturdivant of Enterprise, AL; a special son, Chase Sturdivant; thirty-six (36) nieces and nephews; twenty-eight (28) great nieces and nephews and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, numerous other family members and friends who loved her dearly and most assuredly she will be missed by all.
