SIS. ODET CAMPBELL DELAINE, age 95, of York, Alabama, was born September 14, 1927 to the late James "Jim" and Clora Portis-Campbell in Yantley; Choctaw County AL. She peacefully transitioned and entered into eternal rest September 13, 2023 at her residence surrounded by loving family. Service of Remembrance and Life Celebration is slated for Sunday, September 24, 2023 at 2:00 p. m. at Grants Chapel C. M. E. Church, located 5290 Kinterbish 10, Cuba, Alabama. Sis. Delaine will lie in repose one hour prior to funeral time. Interment follows in Cagus Cemetery, also Cuba. Visitation for family and friends is scheduled Saturday, September 23, 2023 from 3-6:00 p. m. in the Weatherly Chapel. She spent her early years of education at Maple Springs in Choctaw, Alabama. She later attended Kinterbish High School where she graduated in 1946 as salutatorian of her class. She followed her brothers Eli and Levi to Alabama A&M. They joined the military and she returned home. She then attended cosmetology school (E. F Young Beauty School) in Meridian, MS. In 1948 she married Arvell "Knot" Delaine Sr and to this union were born four children, Arnetta Lucky Arvell (Vrita) Delane, Jr, Lenora Delaine-Brown and Quita (LLewellyn) Robinson. She and her husband were owners of Delaine's Cafe' and Hotel. An opening came available for cafeteria manager at York West End High School where she accepted the job and was manager for over 35 years until her retirement. Odet accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age where she joined Silver Creek and later moved to Sardis C.M.E. Church. After marriage, she united with Grants Chapel Christian Methodist Episcopal Church where she was an active and faithful member. On the day before her 96th birthday, Wednesday, September 13, she traded time for eternity. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Arvell Delaine, Sr; brothers, Levi, Eli, and Gabriel; two children Willie Nell and "Baby Boy" Delaine; and her niece whom she had raised, Rita Campbell. Those left to cherish her memories along with her children are her grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She will be truly missed for the colorful rays of light that she beamed into our lives.
