Milton Namon Pope, Sr., 94, of Cedar Park, TX, formerly of York, Alabama, passed away and transitioned peacefully on August 10, 2023, surrounded by loving family. Born June 10, 1929, to Willie & Susie Pope in Myrtlewood; Marengo County, AL, he served 25 years in the Navy earning the rank of Chief Petty Officer. CPO Pope served on many nuclear and diesel submarines during WWII, Korean War and Vietnam. After his military service, he joined the General Dynamics team in Groton, CT, working on submarines. He moved his family to York in 1978 and continued his education, attending Hobson State Technical College, earning his degrees in carpentry and small engine repair. Milton was preceded in death by both parents, his wife Vernice; brothers Connie, David and Leroy; sisters Willie Mae, Nellie, Gladys, Elmira and Daisy. He will be lovingly remembered by his son Milton Jr. and wife, Cindy, son Joel (Annette) Pittman; his sister, Louise Pope Alexander; Grandchildren - Milton III, April, Shelease, Nina, Breyon and Ashlae; Also, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many who called him friend. Services will be held Saturday, August 19, 2023 at 11AM at Eastern Star Baptist Church, York, AL, located 112 Curl Road, with pastor, Rev. Robert E. Pearce delivering the eulogy, offering words of comfort and consolation. Mr. Pope will lie in repose one hour prior to funeral time. Interment and Committal Services with military honors following at Elmwood Memorial Gardens. Visitation is scheduled Friday evening, August 18, 2023 from 3-6PM in the Weatherly Funeral Home Chapel. Please join the family for a luncheon back at Eastern Star Baptist Church following the graveside service. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to your preferred Veteran’s organization or Eastern Star Baptist Church in York.
