Sister Mattie T. Russell, age 72, of York, Alabama, was born in Butler, Alabama, November 29, 1948 to the union of the late John Tidmore, Jr. and Sarah Ann Rebecca Cornelius Tidmore. Her spiritual sunrise in Christ began at an early age whereby she joined the Gilfield Baptist Church Lisman, Alabama. She then moved her membership to Morning Star Baptist Church, Bellamy, Alabama where she served as Lead Usher and remained a faithful member until her health began to fail. She had an extensive career for 34 years employed with Sumter Health and Rehabilitation, York, Alabama faithfully caring for others until her retirement in June of 2020. She was a loving and kindhearted woman of God who has now gone to get her Heavenly reward from the Lord. On Friday, August 20, 2021, at Anderson Regional Medical Center, Meridian, Mississippi, Mattie T. Russell transitioned and entered into eternal rest. Service of Memory and Life Celebration is slated for Saturday, August 28, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Morning Star Baptist Church, located 70 Pine Street, NE, Bellamy, Alabama, with pastor Michael Howard delivering the eulogy and offering words of comfort and consolation. Interment follows in Home Mission Cemetery, Millville Road 19, also York, Alabama. Visitation for family and friends is scheduled Friday evening August 27, 2021 at Weatherly Funeral Home from 3-6:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Mr. LeRoy Russell, Sr; her five brothers - Myles Edwards, William Chaney, Joe Mitchell Glover, Eddie and Isaac Tidmore; her two sisters - Mable Carter and Annie Mae Stephens; her two grandchildren - Michael RaShod Sanders and LaShanta Felicia Russell. Those she leaves to cherish precious memories and to celebrate a beautiful life well-lived are: three daughters; Vivian Olivia Russell, Westerville, OH, Brenda Ann Houston, Wixom, MI, and Joyce Marie Russell of York, AL; one son, Le'Roy Russel, Jr, Lawton, OK; one step son, John Louis (Charlene) Seals, Cleveland, OH; three step daughters; Mary (Gary) Cox, Pasco, WA, Janet (Ricky) McCoy, Shubuta, Ms, and Barbara (Doug) Fulghum of York, AL; her Significant Other, Mr. Willie C McNeal; seventeen (17) grandchildren, twenty-five (25) great grandchildren; four (4) great, great grandchildren, and numerous other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who loved her dearly and whom she also loved. Truly Mattie T. Russell will be greatly missed!
