MARVIN LARKIN, age 90, of York, Alabama passed November 19, 2018 at his residence. Marvin was born on July 26, 1928 in Coatopa, Alabama to Cebell Collins Wilson and Bob Larkin. He began his walk with God at an early age when he accepted Jesus as his savior and the Holy Spirit became his guide. He joined the Mt. Pleasant M. B. Church in Coatopa and remained a faithful member until his illness and death. He served as Church Trustee for many years and was very active in Sunday school and Bible Study. He worked at Miller Lumber Company in Demopolis and as a Boiler Operator at American Can Company in Bellamy, Alabama for many years. He was also an avid farmer and cared for his cows until his health failed him. A Graveside Memorial Service of Remembrance will be held on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at 12 Noon at Elmwood Memorial Gardens. Rev. Tommy C. Brown, Pastor of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, Coatopa, will deliver the eulogy and offer words of comfort and consolation. Afterwards, Mr. Larkin will be interred in The Larkin Family's Columbarium. Repast will be held at Larkin's Restaurant. On Saturday morning the funeral processional will leave at 11:45 AM from Larkin Restaurant and Deli located 1104 4th Avenue - York, AL. Marvin met his soul mate, Angeline Shackelford, and they were united in marriage on August 25, 1951. To this union, seven children were born, and they were the “pride and joy of his life”. He encouraged each of them to have a relationship with God and to develop good work ethics. Marvin was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Angeline Shackelford Larkin; his parents; six brothers—Ludie, Goldman, Dan, Mason, Johnny and Jesse; and six sisters—Mammie, Merium, Alice, Elizabeth, Melinda, and Maggie. He leaves to cherish his Memory:Two sons: Wendell (Allean) Larkin of Livingston, AL and Mark (Lynda) Larkin of Boca Raton, FL.Five daughters: Annie (Horace, deceased) Minor of York, AL; Ruby (Willie, deceased) Jackson of Demopolis, AL; Dr. Brenda (Nelson) Williams, Stockton, AL; Lenora Sheffey of Chattanooga, TN; and Cynthia (George) Mitchell of Tuscaloosa, AL. One brother in law: Jim (Queen) Shackelford of Butler, AL, and one sister in law: Maude Johnson of Meridian, MS. Twelve grandchildren: Lajuana Williams of Atlanta, GA; Valerie (Jarvis) Stingley of Brandon, MS; Marco Larkin of Tuscaloosa, AL; Robert (Kimberly) Mitchell of Tuscaloosa, AL; Jonathan Larkin of Boca Raton, FL; Landria Sheffey of Glenarden, MD; Phillip Mitchell of Tuscaloosa, AL; W. Adam Larkin of Birmingham, AL; Karlin Sheffey of Atlanta, GA; Anthony (Enette) Henderson of Miramar, FL; Reginald Henderson and La-Toya Henderson of Boca Raton, FL Fifteen great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in memory of Mr. Larkin to Angie’s Caring Hearts Foundation, Inc.; 3297 Lynn Bennett Road, York, Alabama 36925.
