In her youth she accepted Christ as her Savior and joined the Eastern Star Baptist under the pastorate of the late Rev. Mose Wimbley. She also attended Kinterbish High School. Her working itinerary included a career as a (CNA) Certified Nursing Assistant at Sumter Nursing Home that is now Sumter Health and Rehabilitation. She was a dedicated employee who worked there for an amazing twenty-eight years and was awarded for doing an outstanding job upon her retirement. Marie had many friends and family that adored her. She was blessed to have touched so many lives. She was super hospitable, and cooking, especially baking was her passion. This was evident because when you walked into her house, rest assured, she was going to ask, “Boy, are you hungry” or are you all hungry? She went out of her way to help anyone and to make sure that you were good and fed before you left. Everyone knew who to call for the best cakes and pies and anything under the sun that involved cooking. Another passion: she was an avid reader, reading at least two novels a week. Her legacy lives on through each and every one of us. She was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Otis “Doll Baby” McCorkle and to this union were born fifteen (15) children; six daughters and nine sons; one adopted brother’s son – five (5) sons having preceded her in death; Travis, Ronnie, Charles, Bernard, and Kennedy McCorkle; and grandsons – Adrian McCorkle and Terrance May. Those who remain to celebrate a life of love and longevity are five (5) sons – Donald and Billy McCorkle; Stacy (Linda) McCorkle, Jay (Cynthia) McCorkle and Nathan Sturdivant; six daughters – Rosemary (Edward) Brown, Ossie and Margaret McCorkle, Lisa (Bob) McCorkle, Tonji and Kimberly McCorkle; (37) grandchildren; (58) great grandchildren; six (6) great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and neighbors who will truly miss her! Our prayer remains that your abiding Faith in God will somehow lend to you a measure of comfort to strengthen and sustain you during your time of most profound sorrow.
