LORIA JEAN THOMAS, age 69, of York, Alabama, born Friday, July 20, 1951 to the union of the late Bester and Mamie Presswood Gee transitioned and entered into eternal rest June 12, 2021 at her residence surrounded by family and loved ones. ***Due to inclement weather, services will be held Saturday, June 19, 2021 at 1:00 pm at Minister Loria's Church - York Primitive Baptist Church, located 404 Marcus Street. Rev. F. O. Bell, pastor of Bethel Pine Baptist Church, Coatopa, will deliver the eulogy and offer words of consolation. Committal will be done at the church with burial at a later date in Elmwood Memorial Gardens, 11313 US Highway 11.*** Visitation for family and friends is scheduled Friday evening (June 18th) from 3-6:00 p.m. in the Weatherly Chapel. Loria grew up in the Boyd Community and graduated from Sumter County Training School. Later she went on to graduate from the Staten Island School of Nursing in 1972. She had a promising career as a practicing nurse and then became a nurse educator for the Sumter County School System. She received her teaching certification training from Auburn University. During her tenure she motivated many individuals to seek careers in healthcare. Loria was blessed to retire from classroom teaching at the end of the 2012-2013 school year. In 2005 she heeded God's call to spread His word and became a licensed minister. Continuing in her faith she later formed the York Primitive Baptist Church. The onset of COVID-19 prevented the formal dedication service from occurring. Preceding her in death are her parents; her daughter Candida; sisters- Lolita, Leonia, Lula Mae, Bertha, Molly, Canary and Alice; brothers - Eugene, Herman, James Edward, Peter, Jimmy, Henry, Sidney, Russell and Bester. Those who remain to cherish her precious memories are: her two children; Daphne and Justin Thomas, York, AL., three grandchildren; Justin, Jr and Ka'Miyah Thomas and Harmony Chapman; two brothers - Calvin Thomas, Sr. Hephzibah, GA and JT Thomas, Chattanooga, TN; three sisters- Bessie Walker. Staten Island, NY. Judy Daymond, Tuscaloosa, AL., and Pauline Slayton, York AL; one sister-in-law, Modine (Melvin) Walton, Livingston, AL; a special sister, Nellie Linwood, Atlanta, GA. and a slate of nieces, nephews, cousins and a community of friends who will surely miss her.
