LIONEL JOSEPH CRAIG, age 54, of York, Alabama, was born to the union of Ira Lloyd and Ozella Craig Jones in New York City, N. Y. He peacefully transitioned and entered into eternal rest at his residence Sunday evening, August 13, 2023 at 4:12 p.m. The Service of Memory and Life Celebration is slated for Saturday afternoon, August 19, 2023 at 12:00 P.M. from the Weatherly Chapel.; with Rev. Daniel Richardson delivering the eulogy offering words of comfort and consolation. Interment follows in St. Peter Cemetery, County Road #20, Emelle, Alabama. Visitation for family and friends is scheduled Friday evening from 3-6:00 P.M., in the Weatherly Repose Room. Lionel confessed hope in Christ at the age of 11 (eleven), under the leadership of Rev. Raymond Western of Sweet Bethel Missionary Baptist Church of Coden, AL., who baptized him and his brother Tony. Lionel grew up in Coden/Bayou LaBatre', AL., of Mobile County. He graduated from Alba High School and went on to attend Faulkner College of Mobile, AL. where he received an Associates Degree. He lived and worked in Los Angeles, California for several years before returning to Alabama. He spent the last twenty years of his life living and working in Meridian, Mississippi and York, Alabama. Lionel was a loving and devoted father and grandfather. Preceding Lionel into eternal rest are his parents, brother, Gregory "Tony" Craig; grandparents, Henry Lee Craig, Sr. and Ella B. Craig; two uncles, Henry Lee Craig, Jr. and Theotis "PeeWee" Craig. Lionel leaves to cherish his precious memories: his daughter, Zanbrenia Burrage, Meridian, MS; three grandchildren, Landarryon, Korbin and Kinley; three aunts, Juanita (Clauzell) Banks, Bayou LaBatre', AL., Diana Craig Bibb and Denise Craig Perry of Tuscaloosa, AL; one uncle, Marvin Craig, York, AL; seven first cousins, Pamela Miller, Clauzell Craig, Brian Craig, Eric Banks, John Bibb, Micah Perry, Thomas Perry, and a host of other relatives and friends. To the entire Craig family, we at Weatherly Funeral Home, offer to each of you our most sincere and heartfelt sympathy and condolences. Our prayer remains that your abiding faith in God will continue to lend to you a measure of comfort that will strengthen and sustain you during your time of most profound sorrow.
