LEVI RODGERS, age 87, was born in 1935 to the union of the late Lee Andrew Rodgers and Millie Brown in Ward, Sumter County, Alabama. He peacefully transitioned September 4, 2022 in Cordova, Tennessee. Service of Memory and Life Celebration is slated for Saturday, September 17, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Baptist Church, Ward, Alabama. Interment follows in the adjacent St. John Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends is scheduled Friday evening (Sept. 16th) from 3-6:00 p.m. in the Weatherly Chapel. Levi graduated from Kinterbish High School in 1952. Eager to pursue opportunities in the North, he moved to Michigan that same year and lived with his brother Peter for a short time. Soon after moving to Michigan, Levi became a member of Warren Avenue Baptist Church. Levi worked for the US Postal Service for a few years before being drafted into the US Army, where he served in the Military from 1956-1960. After finishing his Military duties he continued with the US Postal Service and was soon promoted to supervisor in the late 60's. Levi married Velma Whitfield and to this union a daughter Barbara Etta was born. He loved to stay busy, so he also worked as a cab driver and would purchase and sell used cars. He attended Wayne State University and graduated with a degree in Business Administration in 1976. But, he was not all work and no play. For over 30 years he was a member of Jim Dandy Ski Club and not only did he ski in Michigan but traveled to many other states and even the countries of Vancouver and Austria. He further was an avid tennis player and bowler. Levi loved and enjoyed spending time with his family, friends and former co-workers at reunions and other social gatherings. Those who remain to cherish precious memories and to honor a long-lived life are: A beloved daughter Barbara Etta (Ronald E.) Lloyd, Jr; grandchildren - Kajun, Ronald E.
