JONA MARIE EVANS MOSES, age 62, of Decatur, Georgia, formerly of Sumter County, Alabama, was born June 11, 1960 to the union of Sister Mae Rose Fenderson Evans and the late Mr. Johnnie Green Evans. When Jona heard the voice of her Heavenly father, He welcomed her with open arms and she peacefully transitioned January 25, 2023 at Riverdale Center for Nursing, Riverdale, Georgia, surrounded by loving family and friends. Life Celebration and Service of Memory is Saturday, February 4, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Fourth Creek Missionary Baptist Church, 9925 US Highway 80, York, Alabama. Sister Moses will lie in repose one hour prior to funeral time. Rev. Robert E. Pearce, Jr. will deliver words of comfort and consolation with Minister Melissa Evans Woods serving as Mistress of order; Rev. Mitchell Carter is church pastor. Visitation for family and friends is scheduled Friday evening (Feb. 3rd) from 3-5:00 p.m. in the Weatherly Chapel. On Saturday morning at 10:45 a.m., the processional will leave from the family residence, located 9289 US Highway 80, York. After services, the family will receive friends and associates for repast in the Cafeteria of Sumter Central High School. Jona’s religious training began at home with her parents instilling in her a love for God and her fellow man. At an early age she joined Fourth Creek Missionary Baptist Church under the pastoral of the late Reverend S.C. Kelly. She served several capacities in the church. Jona graduated from Sumter County High School May 1978. She obtained her Associates Degree in Medical Technology from Meridian Junior College. Then, furthering her education at Livingston University (UWA) and Stillman College. Jona moved to Decatur, Georgia and met the love of her life and was united in Holy Matrimony to the Late Benjamin Moses, Sr. in which they shared 32 loving years together. Jona had a thriving career in the medical field holding positions that included Director of Medical Records for prestigious facilities throughout Atlanta. As an entrepreneur at heart, in 1994 Jona and her husband started their own Non-Emergency Medical Transportation Service providing much needed transportation throughout Atlanta. Jona is proceeded in death by her father, Mr. Johnnie Green Evans, her husband, Mr. Benjamin Moses, Sr and son Master Frederick Moses. Those who remain to cherish a well-lived beautiful life are: her two devoted and loving sons, Jonathan Louis (Keia) Moses and Benjamin Moses, II, both of Atlanta, GA; a loving and caring mother, Mrs. Mae Rosa Evans of York, AL; an extraordinary supportive grandson, Jayden Isaiah Moses; two amazing and loyal sisters, Diana E. Woodard of York, AL and Jerridine E. McClinton of Orlando, FL; two caring identical twin brothers, Jacob Evans, Lorain, OH and Joseph Evans of Livingston, AL; six (6) nieces, Laura Bowen, JoAnn Evans, Elaine Jeffery, Kia Cameron, Faith Woodard and Victoria McClinton; three (3) nephews, Joseph Evans Jr, Aaron Evans and Clovice Vaughn II; one uncle Mr. Prince Evans of Linden, AL; eight (8) great nieces, nine (9) great nephews, three (3) great-great nieces, and one great-great nephew; special friends, Mrs. Annie Bell Walker, Ms. Henrietta Childs, Mrs. Loretta Powell, Ms. Elizabeth Weaver and Mr. Henry Chess; and a host of cousins, family members and friends who loved "Ree" and whom she also loved!
