DEACON JIMMIE LEE KNIGHTON, SR., age 81, of York, Alabama born to the union of the late Nathaniel and Alice Daniels Knighton, peacefully transitioned and entered into eternal rest February 4, 2022 at Bryan Whitfield Memorial Hospital, Demopolis, Alabama. Graveside Service of Memory and Life Celebration is slated for Saturday, February 12, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in Johnson Cemetery, Carl Turk County Road 12, Livingston, Alabama. Rev. Samuel Harris, pastor will deliver the eulogy offering words of comfort and consolation with Deacon Alfred Hale serving as Master of Order. During his youth, Deacon Knighton confessed Christ at an early age and joined Morning Star Baptist, Cuba. He later joined Johnson Baptist Church, Livingston, Alabama where he became an ordained Deacon. He was joined in Holy Matrimony to Alberta Chapman Knighton on November 5, 1960. From this union, Jimmie and Alberta shared the joy of raising five children. Jimmie worked hard to provide for his family as an accomplished carpenter. He enjoyed making cabinets and other furniture items as a hobby. He lived his life supporting his loved ones and was always available to assist others in need. Deacon Knighton was preceded in death by his oldest son, Shirone (Shirley) Knighton, two brothers: Arthur (Annie) Knighton and Louis Charles (Adlener) Knighton; and two sisters- Lillie (Elbert) Sanders and Hollie (Patrick) Windham. Deacon Knighton leaves to cherish his memories: his devoted wife, Alberta Chapman Knighton of York AL; his four children - Sandra Clark, Wanda (Terrance) Blakely and Jimmy Lee Knighton, Jr., all of York, Alabama and Phillis (David) Hopson of Meridian, MS. He also leaves his baby sister, Essie Pearl Knighton; eleven grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends who loved him dearly and whom he also loved. Truly Deacon Knighton will be missed!
