JAMES RUMLEY, age 94, of Eutaw, Alabama, born in Choctaw County; Ward, Alabama to the union of the late Allie Rumley and Eddie Rodgers made a peaceful transition June 28, 2019 at 9:40 a. m. at Bryan Whitfield Memorial Hospital, Demopolis, Alabama. Service of Memory is slated for Friday, July 5, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Weatherly Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy E. Johnson delivering the eulogy and offering words of comfort and consolation; Sis. Joshlyn Johnson, serving as Mistress of Order and Sis. Arnetta Lucky as Musician. Interment follows with military detail in the Rumley Family plot of Elmwood Memorial Gardens, Highway 11-East, York, Alabama. Visitation for family and friends is Thursday (July 4th) from 3-6:00 p.m., also in the Weathelry Chapel. He was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church. He attended and graduated from York West End School in York, Al. Then, he attended Alabama A&M University in Huntsville, AL. After leaving the University, he was employed by Choctaw Unity School System as an elementary teacher. He further served his country in World War II in the US Army from July 12, 1943 through March 17, 1946. On December 26, 1950, he married Dora Mae Ward and moved to New Orleans, LA. For years he worked on the riverfront for Cooper Steverdore Company. He and his wife later moved back to Eutaw, Alabama where he lived until he was called to his Heavenly home. He was preceded in death by a devoted and living wife, Dora Mae Rumley; four brothers- Lester Rumley, Willie, Lamon and David Rodgers; four sisters - Rachel, Ethel, Mary and Dorothy Rodgers. James leaves to cherish his memories: a devoted and loving niece and nephew, Tequila and Stanley Baskin of York, AL; devoted cousins; Joe McSwain, Stephen Matthews and Curtis Rumley; three sisters - Annie Rodgers, Josephine Rodgers, Mae Helen (Joseph) Hale, one brother - Eddie James (Ada) Rodgers; a God daughter- Paula Stephens; three God children - Takisha, Adelia and Jivarius Stephens, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will truly miss him.
