GUSSIE BROOKS HOPE, age 77, of Chicago, Illinois, born the third of eleven children to the late Louis C. and Margaree Portis Brooks, transitioned and entered into eternal rest April 22, 2019 at John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook county. Service of Remembrance is slated for Saturday, May 11, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. from Pine Grove Baptist Church, Yantley, Alabama. Rev. Willie Harrison, pastor of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Cuba, Alabama is to deliver the eulogy and offer words of comfort and consolation; Rev. Burton, is church pastor; with Sister Renevia Willis serving as Mistress of Order. Interment follows in Mt. Zion Cemetery, off of Jarman Road, Cuba. After the committal service, repast is on Brooks Street; one block left of the church. Sister Brooks will lie in repose one hour prior to funeral time. Visitation for family and friends is scheduled Friday evening, May 10, 2019 from 3:00-6:00 p.m. in the Weatherly Chapel. While in Alabama, Gussie was a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, before she later moved to Chicago. She was known as a kind woman, bold, up-front and very opinionated; a festive woman who loved Christmas. Also, was an avid fan of the Chicago Bulls and the Bears, further loving her Soap Operas and old westerns. Preceding her in death were her parents, three (3) brothers - Spencer, Eddie and Willie C. Brooks; three (3) sisters - Gloria Brooks, Carolyn Randle and Clarice Maddox. Gussie was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories which includes: her sons; Willie B. (Brenda) Brooks and John Christopher (Monique) Hope of Chicago, IL., three (3) sisters - Mary E. Mason of Cuba, AL., Bertha Brooks and Sarah Johnson of Bakersfield, Calif., one brother, Louis C. Brooks of University Park, IL., eight (8) grandchildren - Brandon, Michael, William, Kayla, Kendall, Christopher, Jr., Madilynn and Cameron, all of Chicago, Illinois; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends who truly loved her and whom she also loved.
