GLENCO MITCHELL HAMILTON, age 82, of Columbus, Georgia, born the only child to the union of the late Davis Mitchell and Lorena Cook Mitchell, of Choctaw County; Alabama, peacefully transitioned in Piedmont Regional Midtown Medical Center (Columbus), September 25, 2020. Graveside Service of Memory and Life Celebration is slated for Saturday, October 3, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. in Kaiser Hill Cemetery, 6115 Melvin Road; in the Melvin Community of Gilbertown, Alabama 36908; with Rev. Tim Pearson, officiating and Rev. Cleveland McFarland, Sr., delivering the eulogy and offering words of comfort and consolation. She will lie in State at the cemetery a half hour prior to service time. On Friday evening (Oct. 2, 2020), Glen will lie in repose for public visitation from 3-6:00 p.m. at Paradise Baptist Church, 1106 East Pushmataha Street; Butler, Alabama 36904. Glenco gave her life to Christ at an early age and was baptized into the fellowship of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, where she served from her childhood and throughout her adult life, until moving to Mobile, Alabama. She was affectionately known as Glen; loved Mt. Moriah and came "home" for fourth Sunday in August yearly, until her health began to fail. She was a member of the St. Peter Baptist Church, serving faithfully until relocating to Columbus, Georgia. Glen was educated in Choctaw County schools and matriculated at Alabama State University, Mississippi State University and Syracuse University. She served as an educator for 44 years with the Mobile County Public School system and Bishop State Community College, where she served as Chairman of the Business and Economics Division until her retirement. She was further a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., for 64 years, practicing her core beliefs of scholarship and service. Celebrating Glen's memory are: her two daughters, Cherise Hamilton Locke of Fairview Heights, Illinois and Gwen Hamilton (Fredrick) Edmond of Columbus, Georgia; four grandchildren who were all the apples of her eye, Gabrielle, Robbi, Colby and Graham; devoted cousins, Geraldine Cromwell, Rev. Cleo Yates Scott, Victor Washington, Gwen Washington Foster and her children, Jessica, Cassandra, and Louis; along with a host of relatives, fellow educators, former students, sorors, church members and friends.
