EUGENE DUNN MAY, age 74, of Inkster, MI, was born July 25, 1949 to the union of the late D. C. and Annie Dee Dunn in Birmingham, Alabama. As an infant Eugene was adopted by his aunt and uncle, Bennie and Lula Brown May and raised in the Kinterbish Community of Cuba, Alabama. He confessed faith in Christ at an early age and joined the Grants Chapel CME Church, Cuba. He was educated in the Sumter County School System and was a 1967 graduate of Kinterbish High School. After graduating he moved to Detroit, MI. and began working for the Ford Motor Company in January of 1968. Service of Memory and Life Celebration is Saturday, April 13, 2024 with Viewing from 12:00-2:00 p.m. at Grants Chapel CME and services beginning at 2:00 p.m. Burial with Military Honors will be held April 15, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at the Alabama National Cemetery, 3133 Hwy 119, Montevallo, Alabama 35115. His desire to serve his country motivated him to take a sabbatical leave from work to join the US Army in 1969, transferring to the US Army Reserves in 1971. While enlisted, Eugene served two tours in Vietnam before being honorably discharged in 1974. In 1990 Eugene met the love of his life, Gerdine Johnson and they were married March 22, 2002. Eugene was a diligent worker and was employed with Ford Motor Company for over 25 years before retiring. Eugene transitioned from his earthly life and entered into eternal rest with God Thursday, March 21, 2024 at John D. Dingell VA Medical Center, Detroit, MI. Those left to cherish precious memories are a loving and devoted wife: Gerdine May; one beloved daughter, Zara (Darren) Blakely of Pell City, AL; two sons - Charles Johnson of Detroit, MI and Lenn Sims of Inkster.
