Ellis "ED" Yarbrough, age 76 of Epes, Alabama, was born January 24, 1947, the fourth of eleven children to the union of the late Jimmy Lee and Velma Yarbrough. He peacefully transitioned and entered into eternal rest January 7, 2024 at 10:25 a.m. surrounded by loving family at Sumter Health and Rehabilitation, York, Alabama. Graveside Service of Remembrance will be slated for Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. in New Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery, located 12171 Sumter County Road 24, Gainesville, Alabama. His nephew, Minister Rev. Erek Yarbrough will deliver words of comfort and consolation. Visitation for family and friends is scheduled Friday evening, January 12, 2024 from 2-5:00 p.m. in the Weatherly Chapel. Growing up Ed joined and attended New Bethel Baptist Church where he acknowledged his faith in God. He was educated in the Sumter County School System. At the age of seventeen (17) Ellis relocated to Chicago, IL where he lived until 2006. He then moved to Bessemer, Al in 2006 where he lived until 2020. He moved back home to Sumter County to the family home where he resided until his health failed and he became a resident of Sumter Health and Rehabilitation. Ed is preceded in death by six brothers - Jimmy Lee "C" Yarbrough, Jr., John, S. L. and Archie Yarbrough, Sr., Benjamin "Rob" Brown and Kenneth Yarbrough; three (3) sisters - Ann Bailey, Mary Johnson and Hanna Yarbrough. Those left to cherish precious memories and to celebrate his life are: one son, Clifton Young, Chicago, IL; one sister Velma Stephens of Helena, Alabama and one brother Lieutenant (Sandra) Yarbrough of Gainesville, AL., one sister-in-law, Cynthia (John) Yarbrough of Detroit, MI., a devoted cousin, Eva Lee Jefferson of Gainesville, Al., eleven nieces, nine nephews, along with a host of other relatives and friends.
