“Who Can find a virtuous woman, for her price is far above rubies….favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised” EDNA MAE HOOKS GIBBS, age 97, born in Lauderdale County, Mississippi to the union of the late Ben and Rachel Bishop Hooks, peacefully transitioned surrounded by loved ones at her residence October 29, 2020. Graveside Service of Remembrance and Life Celebration is slated for Sunday, November 1, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. in the Gibbs Family Cemetery, County Road 27, in the Morning Star Community of Cuba, Alabama. Rev. Reginald Gaddis, pastor of Elizabeth Baptist Church, Lauderdale, will deliver the eulogy and offer words of comfort and consolation. Visitation for family and friends is scheduled Saturday evening (October 31st) from 2-5:00 p.m. in the Weatherly Chapel. At an early age, she joined Elizabeth Baptist Church and was a faithful, loyal member until her passing. During her youth, she attended school in the Lauderdale County educational system. Later she attended Harris Junior College in Meridian, MS. and for many years worked as a substitute teacher in Sumter County, Alabama. Sister Gibbs was united in Holy Matrimony to Professor R. C. Gibbs and to this union were born seven children; their son, Bennie Gibbs having preceded them in death in 2018. Those who remain to cherish her memories and to celebrate a life of Love and Longevity are: her children – ILora (James) Hayes, Houston, Tx., Ella Gibbs, Lillie Willis , Loretta Lewis and Randell Gibbs, all of Lauderdale, MS., and Rachel (Harvey) Ward, Crowley, La; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great, great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends who loved her dearly and whom she also loved.
