DOSHIE LEE GIBBS, age 92 of Cuba, Alabama, born to the union of John and Mattie Dunn Nettles in Sumter County, Alabama, transitioned and entered into eternal rest January 8, 2019.  Service of Remembrance is slated for Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. from Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, 1000 Old Highway 11, Cuba.  Rev. Ronnie Walk will deliver the eulogy and offer words  of  comfort and consolation;  Rev. James Patrick Granger is church pastor.  Sister Gibbs will lie in repose one hour prior to funeral time.  Interment  follows in the Gibbs Family cemetery, off of County Road 27, also Cuba.  Visitation for family and friends is scheduled Friday evening (Jan. 18th) from 3-6:00 p.m. in the Weatherly Chapel.        Momma Doshie accepted Christ at an early age and was a longtime and dedicated member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church of Cuba.  She married Neal Gibbs on August 6, 1953 and they lived the rest of their lives in the Morning Star Community of Sumter County.  She was a graduate of Kinterbish High School and retired from the Sumter County Board of Education as a cook at Sumter County High School in York, Ala.        Momma Doshie was a mother to many in her extended family, including countless nephews and nieces, and great-nephews and great-nieces.  She was also a devoted caregiver to her father and sister Armillar in their latter years.        Sister Gibbs made a peaceful transition to heaven on the night of January 8, 2019, and preceding her into Heaven are:  her husband of 53 years, Neal Gibbs; her parents, John and Mattie Nettles;  three sisters, Armillar Pickens, Joanna Wallace and Bessie Matthews and a daughter, Deloris Dawn Walker, all of Cuba.        Left to cherish her memory are nine nieces:  Annie B. Hutcherson, Lubertha Wallace, Bertha Wallace and Rachel J. Wallace, all of York; Mattie B. Hill-Hall, Dorothy J. Matthews-Hall and Shirley M. Matthews-Morgan, all of Bessemer; Lizzie Mae Matthews-Weatherspoon of York;  and Audrey Gibbs of Rancho Cucamonca, Calif;  seven nephews, Jimmy D. Matthews of Livingston; Will "Bill" Matthews of California; William H. Matthews of Tuscaloosa;  Robert J. Lard of Las Vegas, Nev;  Alfonso Larde of Canton, Ga; Isaiah Lard of Kingsville, Tx. and Eddie Lard of Birmingham, AL.,  a very special caregiver, Shelia McCullom of Cuba, Ala;  dear friend Leslie Mae Drummond of York and numerous great-nephews, great-nieces, other relatives and friends who loved her dearly.        To the entire Gibbs Family, we at Weatherly Funeral Home, offer to each of you our most sincere and heartfelt sympathy and condolences.  Our prayer remains that your abiding faith in God will continue to comfort, to strengthen and sustain you during your time of bereavement.
