Deloris Dawn Walker, age 71, of Cuba, Alabama, born to Neal and Doshie Nettles Gibbs, passed May 5, 2017 in Anderson Regional Medical Center, Meridian, Mississippi. Deloris Dawn Walker was a longtime Alabama television journalist and program director. Ms. Walker is a 1965 graduate of West End High School in York, Alabama; also a graduate of Miles College in Fairfield and Brown University in Providence, R.I. She is a U.S. Navy veteran who served honorably during the Vietnam War Era. Ms. Walker began her television broadcast career in Providence, and later worked as a news anchor in West Virginia. After returning to Alabama, she worked as a news anchor with CBS affiliate Channel 24 in Meridian, Miss., before joining the CBS affiliate in Tuscaloosa, Ala. She later worked as a program director for WIAT/Channel 42 in Birmingham, where she retired. Service of Remembrance is Saturday, May 13, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. from Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, York, Alabama. Rev. Ronnie Walk, pastor, will deliver the eulogy and offer words of comfort and consolation. Interment follows with Navy Military Honors in Gibbs Cemetery, Morning Star community of Cuba. Following the committal service, the family will fellowship for repast at the Walker/Gibbs residence located 4775 Sumter 27, Cuba. This is also where the processional leaves from Saturday afternoon at 2:40 p.m. Visitation for family and friends is scheduled Friday evening (May 12th) from 3:00-6:00 p.m. in the Weatherly Chapel.
