CAROLYN YVONNE "Moot" YATES, age 73, of Washington, D. C. formerly of Sumter County; Alabama, peacefully transitioned and entered into eternal rest August 31, 2022 at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. She was born in Chattanooga, Tn. to the union of the late Eddie Yates and Mary Helen Cross. Graveside Service of Memory and Life Celebration is scheduled Tuesday, September 13, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in the Old Jones Creek Cemetery, Epes, Alabama. Her brother, Rev. Larry E. Yates will deliver the eulogy with Sister Josephine Steele Louis serving as Mistress of Order. Visitation for Family and Friends is Monday evening from 3-6:00 p m. in the Weatherly Chapel. The processional leaves with escort service from 33 Yates Street at 10:30 a.m. for the cemetery. After the committal service, repast is at the Epes Community Center. She accepted Christ in 1961 and united with First Baptist Church, Epes, Alabama under the leadership of the late Reverend J. H. Hodges. Carolyn graduated from Sumter County Training School in 1967. She later attended Alabama A & M University in Huntsville, Alabama earning a B. S. Degree in Biology in 1971. Afterwards, she moved to Washington, D. C. where she lived for many years. Carolyn worked various jobs as Manager Supervisor, Special Projects (Reconciliation Manager for National Loan Servicing Center), Washington, D. C; FHA Loan Servicing Specialist for Wells Fargo, Multifamily Capital/Reilly Mortgage Group , McLean, VA and Senior Asset Manager for National Cooperative Bank, Arlington, VA. She retired in 2016. She was a member of several clubs and enjoyed playing cards. Carolyn united with Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church of Washington, D. C. in 2018 where Reverend Freddie Davis serves as Senior Pastor. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Helen Cross Yates and Eddie Yates; her sisters - Leona Cross Thompson and Hortense E. May Yates Carter and her brother Walter Cockrell. She leaves to cherish her memories: three brothers, Reverend Larry E. (Jerlinda) Yates of Epes, AL, Ralph C. Yates and Eddie Childers, both of Dayton, Ohio; one sister, Surlester Boykin of Bessemer, AL; one aunt, Dorothy Mitchell, Chattanooga, TN; other beloved relatives: Anthony (JoAnn) Cross and Reginald (Sherryl) Cross, both of York, AL; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives; a special group of friends of Washington, D.
