CAROLYN J. STUDDARD, age 75, of Birmingham, Alabama, was born in Clarksville (Red River County) Texas, to the union of the late L. C. and Virginia Barry Jones. She peacefully transitioned surrounded by loving family, and was welcomed into the arms of her Heavenly Father November 16, 2021. Service of Memory and Life Celebration is slated for Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at 12:00 noon from the chapel of Westside Funeral Home Fairfield, with her brother in Christ, Rev. Derrick Hudson officiating with interment to follow in Valhalla Memorial Gardens, 839 Wilkes Road, Birmingham 35228. Private family visitation is 2-3:00 p.m. with walk through viewing from 3-6:00 p.m., also Westside. In her youth Carolyn was educated in the school districts of Texas and obtained her advanced undergraduate degree at Jarvis Christian College, Hawkins, Texas. In addition, her Masters degree was granted from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). Upon graduating, she moved her church affiliation from Texas as she relocated to Alabama becoming a member of Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church. Being a Christian woman, she served faithfully in many capacities. As an educator who encompassed more than a thirty-eight (38) year tenure within the Birmingham city school system, she was instrumental in expanding the mind potential of numerous students. She taught several years at Jackson Elementary School, Arrington Middle School (formerly Southwest Middle), and afterwards many years at West End High School, retired in 2007, but could not rest upon her laurels. Furthermore, she also served as the volleyball coach for the Youth Games for many years. When a position became available in the Miles College Athletic department, she pursued this career path for another several years. After finally retiring and with more time on her hands, beautiful flowers and landscaping her yard became a project that she immensely enjoyed. More time was also available for giving additional service to projects within her church. Carolyn married the love of her life that she met while on the campus of Jarvis Christian; and at her passing they remained as one for more than 53 years. To this union were born two children whom she adored beyond measure. Those who remain to cherish memories and to celebrate a beautiful well-lived life of love are: a truly loving and devoted husband, Hiawatha E.
