Bessie Lee Shelton

January 31, 1935 — September 14, 2017

       BESSIE LEE SHELTON, age 82, of Debary, Volusia County, Florida, formerly of Sumter County, Alabama, born the fourth child of seven children to the late Alexander and Hattie Oakley Spencer,  transitioned at her daughter's residence September 14, 2017 at approximately 9:00 a.m.  Service of Celebration and Remembrance is to be held Saturday, September 23, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. from Bethel Pine Baptist Church, 796 Sumter 22, Coatopa, Alabama where Rev. F. O. Bell is pastor.  Sister Shelton will lie in repose one hour prior  to funeral time.  Interment follows in Zion Hill Cemetery with repast following in the Fellowship Hall of Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church. Visitation for family and friends is scheduled Friday evening (Sept. 22, 2017) from 3-6:00 p.m.in the Weatherly Chapel.       She was preceded in death by brothers- Robert, Frank, Moses, and Leroy and sons-Theophilus Shelton and Robert (Jim) Spencer.  She is survived by a sister, Eunice Triggs and a brother Alex (Whit) Spencer.       Bessie was an avid baker, seamstress and ceramics maker.  She attended Sumter County Training School and was a part of the girls basketball team.  She later married Lemon Shelton who preceded her in death October 12, 1999.       Those who remain to celebrate her life and to cherish precious memories are:  her children- Leonard Spencer, Hattie (Reginald) Maxwell, Irma Varacalli, and Milton Shelton;  grandchildren - Marcus Spencer, Christopher Artis, Remechia Smith, Aquandra Spencer, Nicholas Mikel, Jennifer Spencer,  Shaquandria Spencer, T.J. Shelton, Lisa Mikel, Alex Mikel, Nicole Shelton, Victoria Echols, Kennedy Carey and Keannah Shelton; great grandchildren - Markeice and Makayja Spencer, Elijah Lard, Kaylee and Kathleen Artis and Alivia Mikel; a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous other relatives and friends who knew and loved her dearly.  She will truly be missed by all.        To the Shelton Family, we at Weatherly Funeral Home, "caring professionals since 1942", offer to each of you our most sincere and heartfelt sympathies and condolences.  Our prayer remains that your abiding faith in God will continue to comfort, to strengthen and sustain you during your many hours of bereavement.
