BESSIE LOUISE RODGERS, age 87, of York, Alabama born to the late Alonzo and Margaret Jo Bett Wilson, transitioned at Hill Hospital of Sumter County at 7:40 p.m. June 7, 2017. Service is Remembrance is Saturday, June 17, 2017 at 12:00 noon from Eastern Star Baptist Church, 110 Curl Road in the Grant City Community of York. Rev. Charles H. Delaine, pastor, is to deliver the eulogy and offer words of comfort and consolation. Sister Rodgers will lie in repose one hour prior to funeral time. Interment follows in Ward Chapel Cemetery, Ward, Alabama. After the committal service, the family will have repast in the Fellowship Hall of Eastern Star. On Friday evening, (June 16th) visitation is scheduled from 3-6:00 p.m. in the Weatherly Chapel. The funeral cortege leaves from the Rodgers Family residence, located 108 Chaney Avenue, York, Saturday morning at 11:40 a.m. She was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Lamon Rodgers, Sr. who departed this life in 1958. She is also further preceded in death by her parents, two children, two grandchildren, six brothers and five sisters. Those who remain to celebrate her life and to cherish precious memories are: her four children - Johnny (Bertha) Rodgers, Daniel Rodgers, Rose Jackson, all of York, Alabama and Fredrick Rodgers of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; two sisters, Myra (Martin) Alston and Johnnie (Ellis) Capers; one brother, Robert (Stephanie) Wilson, all of Elyria, Ohio; a special nephew-Lawrence Derrick (Janise) Wilson of Meridian, MS; seventeen (17) grandchildren; twenty-one (21) great grandchildren; two (2) great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous other relatives and friends who loved her dearly and she will truly be missed by all.
