Gertrude Nixon Townsend

GERTRUDE NIXON TOWNSEND, age 86, of Milton, Florida, a former resident of Sumter County, Alabama, born to the late Cody and Onia Harris Blakely, departed this life at her Florida residence June 8, 2016.  Service of remembrance will be held Saturday, June 18, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. from Morning Star Baptist Church, 4907 Dove 2, Cuba, Alabama.  Rev. Cody Blakely will deliver the eulogy and offer words of consolation; Rev. Willie Wilson is church pastor.  Mrs. Townsend will lie in repose one hour prior to funeral time.  Interment follows in the Gibbs Family cemetery, also Cuba.  Visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Friday evening (June 17th) from 3-6:00 p.m. in the Weatherly Chapel.       Those who remain to celebrate her life and to cherish fond memories are:  Surviving siblings - Mary Etta Hines, Roosevelt "Bell" Nixon, Rebecca Loston, Lillie Mae Burton, Lillie Bea White, Lee Grace Pinkney, Robert "Billy" Blakely and Spencer Blakely; other nieces, nephews, cousins, family members and friends who loved her dearly.       To the Townsend Family, we at Weatherly Funeral Home, offer to each of you our most sincere and heartfelt sympathy and condolences.  Our prayer remains that your abiding faith in God will continue to comfort, to strengthen and sustain you during your time of sorrow.
